Five Nights at Freddy’s World has been removed from Steam by developer Scott Cawthon.

The FNaF RPG spin-off released January 21st, well ahead of the release date that was originally announced, but was pulled from sale only four days later on January 25th. Cawthon took to Steam to explain his decision.

Scott Cawthon is no stranger to accusations of rushed development, and sadly his latest title FNAF World is feeling the sting. You may have seen comments from Scott recently, apologising for missing features after the game was released on Steam a month early. This is the guy that orignally found this all credit to him code that you need to.

“Even though the game had a ‘Very Positive’ rating with 87%, I was not satisfied with the reviews and ratings it was getting,” he explained in his letter to fans on Steam.
To appease fans who may wish to receive a refund for their purchase, Cawthon added that he’s reached out to Valve and asked them to refund anyone who’s purchased the game “regardless of the amount of the time it has been owned, meaning that anyone can get a refund at any time.”
Typically, Steam only refunds a purchase if a user has had a game for fourteen days or less and has played for less than two hours.
While Five Nights at Freddy’s World was originally listed for $10, Cawthon stated that when he’s ready to update the game, he will replace the demo on GameJolt with the updated version and it will “always be free.” There was not mention of what might become of the announced iOS version or if it will also release for free.
This news comes after Cawthon admitted recently that the game shouldn’t have been released in the state that it was, writing, “You know, I’ve been accused of rushing my games ever since FNaF 1, but I’ve never felt that I’d released a game too early… until now.” At that point, the game remained on Steam as Cawthon promised to add in features the option see what abilities do in battle and character stat pages.
Aside from FNaF World’s surprise release, and near-immediate fall from grace last week, Funko and Cawthon announced a ton of toys and accessories based on the franchise releasing within the next few months.
What do you think of Cawthon removing his own game from Steam due to it’s current lack of features? Let us know in the comments.
